The Club
FC St. Gallen 1879 is Switzerland's oldest football club and one of
the most traditional in Europe. For over 145 years, the club has
thrilled generations of fans in eastern Switzerland and far
beyond.
In 2008, the club moved from the legendary Espenmoos to the
modern Kybunpark in the west of the city. Since then, the arena,
which seats almost 20,000, has provided the stage for thrilling
matches, great emotions and a unique fan culture.
The greatest sporting moments date back around 20 years, when
St. Gallen secured the second championship title in the club's
history under Marcel Koller. This was followed by setbacks and
two relegations – but FCSG came back and has established itself
strongly and consistently in the Super League in recent years.
Highlights include participation in the Europa League group stage
in 2013/14 and qualification for the Conference League in the
2024/25 season.
Today, the focus is clearly on the future. With sound financial
management and a calm, stable club environment, FC St. Gallen is
once again setting new standards. With more than 18,000
spectators per home game, the club is experiencing record
numbers and a level of euphoria rarely seen before.
An important pillar for the future is the development of young
talent. Together with FC Wil, the Futur Champs Ostschweiz project
has established a strong talent pool, which is already bringing
many young home-grown players into the first team – a promise
for the future of football in eastern Switzerland.
FC St. Gallen will be guests at the next tournament in the GESA
with their U19 team from the FCO.

The City
St. Gallen is the eighth largest city in Switzerland and also the capital
of the canton of St. Gallen. As of 2013, the city had a population of
just under 79,000 and is located around 700 metres above sea level
– the population grew for the fifth consecutive year in 2013. The
name St. Gallen comes from St. Gallus, an Irish monk and hermit
who is said to have been the first to settle in the uninhabited area in
612.
After the founding of the monastery of St. Gallen by its first abbot,
St. Otmar, in 719, the Abbey of St. Gallen became a cultural centre
of great influence in Europe in the 9th and 10th centuries thanks to
its unique library.
After the Second World War, the city recovered from a deep
economic crisis – the economic boom saw the population grow to
over 80,000 inhabitants in 1970. For the first time since the Middle
Ages, the service sector surpassed the textile industry in 1970.
However, the city is still known worldwide as a textile city – its
embroidery is still in high demand and is part of the city's identity.
The fashion company AKRIS underlines this tradition and is now one
of the most important clothing manufacturers in Switzerland.
