The Club
Newcastle United, often known as The Magpies or The Toon,
was founded in 1881 and is one of England's most traditional
clubs. The club has won the English championship four times
(1905, 1907, 1909, 1927) and six English Cup titles (1910, 1924,
1932, 1951, 1952, 1955).
International glory: Newcastle's first major success came in
1969 when they won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup with a 6-2
aggregate score in the final against Újpesti Dózsa.
Newcastle's famous crest reflects the history and identity of its
home town: two seahorses symbolise the strong connection to
the sea and the maritime tradition of the Tyne region. The castle
refers to Newcastle's Norman past. The black and white stripes
on the shield represent the club's characteristic colours.
In the 2025/26 season, Newcastle United will compete in both
the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
This is the first time that the Magpies will be participating in our
tournament in Altstätten with an U19 team — a great
opportunity to discover new talent and experience top-class
international football up close.

The City (Newcastle upon Tyne)
Newcastle upon Tyne – usually just called Newcastle – is located
in the north-east of England on the River Tyne and has a
population of around 300,000. The city is the northernmost
major city in England and forms its own metropolitan borough
within the county of Tyne and Wear. On the south side of the
Tyne lies Gateshead, with which Newcastle is closely linked –
together they shape the cityscape and the modern, up-and-
coming region.
Newcastle has a rich history characterised by industry, port
trade and a strong sense of community. The local dialect is
called Geordie, which is also the name given to the people who
live in the city and its surrounding area. Whether in culture,
sport or education, Newcastle presents itself with confidence
and inspires with its distinctive character.
